Wine Country

(Tuesday 14 April 2009) by Dopps Family
Today is Tuesday, April 14 (at least that is what the computer tells me). We had a very nice stay over the weekend in Stellenbosch in a cottage on the estate of an old farm with beautiful cottage gardens where race horses where once raised but where these days wine is produced. The Easter bunny had put out its eggs in the gardens which delighted the girls.
We are now in a county style hotel (where apparently many people hold weddings) which we have to ourselves – and where we finally have Internet which has been hard to find, especially over Easter when the few Internet cafes that are around were closed. The peacocks run around freely in the gardens around the hotel and the girls look forward to swimming in the pool today. Every day, the weather is just beautiful. We are really enjoying our time here.
Yesterday, we spent the afternoon in a place called Spiers and ate at an African restaurant named Moya. We sat up high in a sort of a tree house where we got our faces painted while African drummers were playing and singing for us at our table. The food was delicious and the atmosphere unbeatable.
After relaxing around the pool today we will spoil our palette once more with a gourmet meal in Franschhoek – which is what this town is known for - at a place called La Petite Ferme. Tomorrow we will move on to the South coast for the infamous Garden Route.
